Property Description:
VRC recently completed two conservation easements in the town of Cavendish. VRC worked with town officials to establish a river corridor easement on this 11.7-acre parcel and on this adjacent 18.8-acre parcel (see Stubelek River Corridor Easement). The riparian areas in this reach of the Black River are subject to erosion which can release significant amounts of sediments and nutrients into the river. The continued use of this floodplain as open space will serve as green infrastructure and will preserve several floodplain functions it provides that benefit water quality. This project was made possible through the Town of Cavendish and the Vermont Agency of Natural Resources Department of Environmental Conservation with funding from the Ecosystem Restoration Program.
