Vermont’s rolling hills and lush forests – home for Onel for the past several years – still remind him of the verdant hills where he grew up in Nicaragua. Onel has garnered a strong YouTube following through his travel videos featuring destinations in Mexico, Guatemala, and Costa Rica. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, his short films shifted to closer-to-home topics like how to build an igloo and ice fishing in Vermont – films he could produce from his home in Cabot, Vermont.
Last year Onel visited a dozen Vermont swimming holes and produced six films showcasing places to enjoy riverside walks, beat the heat, or enjoy an afternoon picnic. Here we highlight one of those videos, which was filmed in the fall at Buttermilk Falls. The video is in Spanish, a small way we can make sure we’re welcoming people of all backgrounds to our public river access sites. Even if you don’t speak Spanish fluently, Onel’s delight in these special places shines through, reaching across languages to share his genuine love of Vermont’s rivers.
Fall into Onel’s video to get inspired for your fall Vermont river adventure. If you want to see what else our sites have to offer in the fall, take a look at our Interactive Site Map or our fall-related content on Facebook and Instagram.
