DO NOT SWIM! Vermont waters are currently unsafe. Due to significant rain and flooding in most of Vermont on July 10th, with rains continuing on July 11th, currents are very strong. Also, most rivers are filled with debris, effluent, chemicals, fertilizers, etc. and are unsafe for swimming.

Paddlers’ Trail Campsites

When planning a multi-day trip on Vermont’s rivers, put-ins and portages aren’t so hard to find. It’s campsites that are few and far between. And without a place to camp, a multi-day trip is just a day trip.

To make sure paddlers have plenty of options for planning overnight trips, we’ve worked with landowners along the Connecticut River and Lamoille River to protect campsites only accessible from the river. Each site is unique – some perched on banks above the river, some shady, others open – but all are places where paddlers can rest assured there’s room to pitch a tent.

The Future

Nearly every year, we add add campsites to Vermont’s paddlers’ trails. Plus, we help to maintain these sites, repairing stairs, picnic tables, privies, and signs, to ensure they’re in tip-top shape for the next visitors.
