Meet our new Community Engagement Coordinator: Isla Lyons

September 25, 2024

Vermont River Conservancy is excited to welcome our 2024 Vermont Housing and Conservation Board AmeriCorps member Isla Lyons to the team!

The AmeriCorps program gives Vermont River Conservancy the opportunity to add a new face to the team. Isla will be engaging with Southern Vermont communities and organizing events that highlight the importance of rivers. You will see more blog and social media posts from us as she gets started with her service year. When you see Isla out in the field or at events, ask about the AmeriCorps program!

Isla joined the VRC team in September 2024 through the Vermont Housing and Conservation Board AmeriCorps program. Although originally from upstate New York, Isla lived in New Hampshire before moving to Vermont. She recently graduated from Plymouth State University with a bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science & Policy and a minor in Geography. Isla has worked on water-related projects, environmental education, and community outreach projects: from being a teaching assistant in college to research assistant with the Appalachian Mountain Club. As Community Engagement Coordinator, Isla hopes to increase community knowledge and excitement for Vermont’s rivers and ecosystems and highlight their importance.

Isla currently lives in Brattleboro. While she isn’t serving at Vermont River Conservancy, she enjoys yoga, long walks, visiting her family and friends and exploring new peaceful river spots in Vermont.
