Lloyd Gierke River Corridor Easement Bloomfield, Vermont Nulhegan River

Lloyd Gierke River Corridor Easement

Decades ago, longtime Northeast Kingdom residents Lloyd Gierke and his young bride staked their dreams here. After years cruising timber and overseeing local mills, they staked their rootes here, built a home, and made plans for their future together. Within just a few short years, tragedy struck, leaving Lloyd alone. Unable to bear returning alone, Lloyd moved away, abandoning the land and home they loved. Aside from annual haying by a local farmer, the land was left to its own accord.

In his later years, Lloyd wanted to do right by the land and river where he once staked his dreams, and he worked with Vermont River Conservancy to add a river corridor easement to ensure it would be protected forever. Today, the land is stewarded by new owners who are breathing new life into the homestead and continuing the legacy of caring for this riverfront property.
