Perot River Corridor Easement Waitsfield, Vermont Mad River

Perot River Corridor Easement

Climate change means that Vermont can expect to see more and bigger floods — events that can destroy roads and bridges, homes and businesses near rivers. Conservation easements like this help prepare for the next flood. Just upstream of the village of Waitsfield, this property provides a critical safety valve during flood events. Thanks to the easement here, the land will never be developed, and when water is high, the river can flow across the land. The land will be able to absorb floodwaters and Mad River will be able to move and shift over time, helping to reduce flood damage for communities downstream.
