We worked with the Green Mountain Conservancy and VHCB to establish this 197-acre preserve at the headwaters of the Green River — a tranquil paradise where beaver ponds and meadows, forest ledges, and babbling streams attract human and non-human visitors alike. The preserve is part of the largely unfragmented 3,000+ acre Harrisville Forest block, which provides migration corridors for many species. Now protected forever by a conservation and public access easement, the old forest here will grow ever mossier and more complex, offering clean water benefits, climate and flood resilience, excellent wildlife habitat, and a place to hike, ski, snowshoe, and enjoy nature for generations to come.
Walk the trails, see a performance, or take an art class at Potash Hill, home of Marlboro Music.
Afterwards, enjoy a bite to eat at the Royal Diner.
A trailhead and parking area will soon be developed on Moss Hollow Road across from Musician’s Way. In the meantime, the site is best accessed through a network of trails maintained by the Marlboro Nordic Ski Club.
From Brattleboro: Take Western Ave to where it turns into VT-9 W/Marlboro Road. Continue to follow VT-9 W for 7.1 miles. Turn left onto South Road and follow for 2.7 miles, past the Potash Hill campus. Continue onto Moss Hollow Road. The future parking area and trailhead is located 0.2 miles down Moss Hollow Road in a turnout on the right (north) side of the road, opposite Musicians Way.
From the north: Take 1-91 S to Exit 2 (Bennington). Merge onto Western Ave and continue 1.6 miles. Then continue onto VT-9 W/Marlboro Road and follow the directions above.
